Tips & Reviews

Be careful what you wish for or make sure to phrase it right. Did I really want to leave Barcelona? Well, here's a twist— our flight was delayed for more than a day. We wouldn't have minded exploring the city a bit longer, but next time I'll choose my words more wisely. But that’s not the main point. I wanted to share a bit about Vueling Airlines. My advice? Avoid booking the last flights with this airline. There's a 90% chance your flight won't take off. Sure, the fares are low, and they offer convenient direct routes, but I’m not sure if the hassle of lost time and frustration is worth it. On the evening we were scheduled to depart, they cancelled four flights (!!!). So, it turned into hours of waiting in various lines and a sleepless night. All in all, just tread carefully.

Vueling may not be the business-class experience of Aeroflot, but it's definitely around three times cheaper than Pobeda.
Vueling Airlines just launched its first flight connecting Vilnius and Barcelona. The ticket prices are even lower than those of Wizzair! The planes are quite comfortable! The flight attendants are friendly, and the pilots did an excellent job (the landings were so smooth, we hardly felt them)! Overall, I highly recommend it.

So, my traditional September trip to Spain started off with a bang—my flight was delayed by three hours. Just a heads-up, I'm flying with Vueling Airlines, the second-largest budget airline in Spain, which this year seems to have set some records for delays and cancellations. Between mid-June and early July alone, they canceled 56 flights and affected around 8,000 passengers. It’s a far cry from their reputation back in 2009 when they were considered one of the top three quality carriers in Western Europe! I really hope they get back on track soon, as there's no one else offering direct flights from Kazan to Barcelona anymore. By the way, ticket prices for this route start from 100 euros this year. For that price, you won't even get a glass of water on board. Sigh, I would have preferred to fly with my beloved Aeroflot, but it's so pricey... and with layovers...
A travel hack: Fly with anyone but Vueling. :-( Three weeks ago, I bought three tickets from Barcelona to Geneva for a total of €116, including luggage! Now, my flight is supposed to be in just three hours, and at 11:30 I received a text saying the flight has been canceled. :-( They offered a refund or a flight tomorrow morning. Great, right? But I have a seminar in France starting at 10 AM! The cheapest tickets for today? €138 for ONE ticket! What a way to run an airline. :-(

I wanted to share my experience: Avoid Vueling Airlines! It's a very low-cost carrier with extremely uncomfortable planes and significant restrictions.
A few words about Vueling Airlines. Having two out of four flights going wrong is quite alarming... On the first flight, we faced a one-hour delay. The second was worse, as our return flight was canceled just three days before departure while we were already on vacation. Even though they provided a transfer, meals, and a nice hotel, it doesn't excuse them, as we had to demand everything ourselves; the managers didn’t offer any help. In the end, after spending another night in Barcelona, we arrived in Warsaw and had to take a night bus to Vilnius. Vueling won’t be flying to Vilnius for another year. Next time, I might as well pay a bit more for a different airline.

Oh, those Spanish airlines... Iberia and Vueling are two leading carriers in Spain, and may they fly long and successfully, but not with me. My flight from Barcelona to Moscow was my 14th flight in the last three years and the second one to be delayed. The first delay was on the Moscow-Barcelona leg. Bingo! Two out of two! We landed in Moscow at 8 AM instead of the scheduled 4 AM. The flight information screen at Barcelona Airport stopped showing updates well before midnight. We had our boarding gate changed three times, while the flight to St. Petersburg had it changed at least twenty times. We boarded the plane at the scheduled time, accounting for the three-hour delay, and then... sat in it for another hour before takeoff. I've flown with other airlines during tougher times, and never had a flight delayed for even a minute. Cheers to Spain and its airlines!

Food and drinks are available for purchase, so to speak ????. A dream for all the budget travelers...
