Royal Botanic Gardens
Royal Botanic Gardens is situated just a few kilometers from the bustling city center of Kandy, nestled along the banks of the Mahaweli River. Established in 1843, this expansive 147-acre garden was originally a royal pleasure garden and is now renowned for its extensive collection of over 4,000 species of plants, including the impressive National Herbarium. As a key center for plant research and conservation, it offers visitors the chance to explore diverse themed sections, such as the palm avenue and the enchanting orchid house. The gardens are particularly vibrant during the months of January and February when a variety of flowers bloom, making it an ideal time for a leisurely stroll.
