Getting Around

Bus
Palermo's buses cost €1.40 per single ride and operate daily from 5am to midnight, covering key areas like Piazza Politeama and the market at Ballarò; get your ticket from a Tabaccheria beforehand. To save a few bucks, consider purchasing a day pass for €3.50, which allows unlimited travel and is great for exploring the city.
On Foot
Walking in Palermo is free and offers access to vibrant neighborhoods like the Kalsa and Ballarò, but always be aware of uneven cobblestones and curbs. For a shortcut, take the scenic Via dei Crociferi to avoid heavy traffic areas while soaking up historical sights.

« Palermo blew me away! It’s nothing like our previous cruise destinations. Such an authentic place. When we arrived at the port, we were greeted by friendly, tanned guys in sunglasses (like “bon jorno, taxi!”). The market itself was filled with fresh produce, with vendors calling out from their stalls as we strolled by. The streets were buzzing with people and the occasional charming chaos of dogs and litter, while cars zoomed by, not quite respecting the pedestrians even on the crosswalks 😂 Almost every corner felt like a scene from a movie, everything had its own unique flair, globalization hasn’t really touched some of these areas.

As for prices: an old-school cart with fruits and vegetables costs around $15, and the vendors were very laid-back, casually offering their goods with a smile. We ended up buying some really fresh food, which felt like the easiest money ever earned that day: the customers supported the vendors, the money came from us, and the products were wondrous.

What a vibrant place! I can’t really say if I fell in love with it or not, but it definitely made a strong impression. 😊 »

« Undoubtedly, Palermo is the most beautiful and intriguing city of all the places I've had the chance to visit in Sicily. »

« We visited Palermo today. It was a mixed experience. There are many beautiful architectural monuments and attractions, but the city itself feels bleak, dusty, monotonous, partly ruined, and chaotic. You wouldn't expect that in Europe. It reminded me of Havana. It was interesting to visit, but I don’t want to go back. »

« Palermo turned out to be surprisingly beautiful. I really feel the need to return and soak up its atmosphere better. For some reason, I underestimated it at first glance, and I regret that. Those palm parks are something else! 🌴✨ »
