Gurten
Gurten, rising just outside of the center of Berne, is a popular local mountain offering stunning views of the city and the surrounding Alps. Dating back to 1893, this green plateau is not only a favorite for walking, hiking, and cycling but also serves as a venue for various cultural events throughout the year. The Gurtenbahn, a funicular railway, transports visitors from the base to the top in just a few minutes, covering a steep track of 1,200 meters. In June, this area is particularly lively when the Gurtenfestival, a well-known music festival, draws in crowds to enjoy performances amidst the scenic backdrop. While at Gurten, visitors can explore the diverse flora and fauna, including over 160 plant species, and take part in family-friendly activities like the playground and mini-golf.
