« After the last vaccine, my four-month-old baby had a fever all night. I decided to buy a thermometer, one of those new ones that you just touch to the forehead and it instantly shows the temperature on the screen. I went to the pharmacy and was shocked to see the price was $73. »

« Once a separate settlement, now one of the most colorful districts of Quito is Guápulo. It’s a place favored by creative souls and culinary talents capable of making something out of nothing.

What unites the residents of Guápulo is their shared disdain for the rest of the capital and nearby villages. In the mornings and evenings, there’s a mass migration of workers. Good roads have been built to allow neighboring towns to transport everyone to Quito for work, charging a fee of $0.40 for passage. The more economical part of the population (which is almost everyone) prefers to endure the traffic jams among the narrow, cobbled but free streets of Guápulo. »

« The cable car ticket was suspiciously expensive, but that didn't bother me. It was only when the ride took much longer than expected that I realized why: the cabin took me up 3,937 feet! At an altitude of 13,451 feet, I even strolled around the mountains... 🌄😊 »

« I really love the prices of flowers in Ecuador! They are one of the largest flower exporters in the world for a reason! I paid $1.50 for these yellow ones. 🌼 »

« My brother greeted me like this. There were about 50 roses, probably priced around $7. »
