« Today was an incredibly eventful day as we visited the main attractions of Istanbul: Hagia Sophia, the Blue Mosque, the Basilica Cistern, and we made our way to Topkapi Palace. Hagia Sophia amazed me with the vastness of its vaults and dome. It doesn’t seem that big from the outside, yet its size is absolutely breathtaking! Its history is also quite similar to that of the St. Isaac's Cathedral; it was reconstructed three times. I should note that for the first two times it belonged to Christians, but for the third reconstruction, additional vaults and minarets were added, turning it into a mosque. On February 1, 1935, it opened its doors as a museum. »
The city is full of fascinating spots that deserve your attention, but perhaps the best way to start your sightseeing is at the Hagia Sophia, rightly considered the eighth wonder of the world. »
