Getting Around

Bus
Kyoto's city buses operate from 5am to 11pm, with a flat fare of 230 yen across all routes, including key spots like Kinkaku-ji and Nijo Castle, and you can pay with cash or an IC card like Suica or ICOCA. To save money, consider getting a one-day bus pass for 600 yen, which allows unlimited rides and is perfect for hopping between attractions.
Metro
Kyoto's metro costs 210 yen per ride and operates from 5am to 11pm, effectively connecting key areas like Kyoto Station and Arashiyama; you can streamline your travel by purchasing an ICOCA card at any station. Pro tip: avoid peak hours—weekdays from 8-9am and 5-6pm—when the trains get crowded, especially around commuter hotspots.

« When we became acquainted with Kyoto, we discovered that it consists 80% of temple complexes. 🤔 Since there was no option to visit them all, we decided to visit the most significant and original one.

The Fushimi Inari Shrine is dedicated to the Shinto deity Inari, representing agriculture and prosperity. Since she is responsible for rice crops, it has become the main shrine in the pavilion, and this shrine is dedicated to the entire mountain.

Inari's image is omnipresent, and this place is also called the "thousand gates shrine," as the trail at the top of the mountain passes through orange gates that are actually much larger than a thousand. The fact is that it is considered a prestigious place to donate money to the shrine, allowing you to have a gate installed as a result. There’s even a price list! 📜 However, there is a queue every year for three - there are no wishing applicants, despite an internal fee of up to $9,000.

One shouldn't think of this as merely a cute place; don't let the bright colors mislead you into confusion - the charming trail leads through desolate stone graveyards overgrown with moss, with signs warning about wild boars at night. 🐗 »

« When the phone is used solely for communication 📞📱, my camera 📸 captured such magical, soulful, and truly memorable shots for me ✨🌈❤️🇯🇵.

I might return to photography?)))

I absolutely love Japan! A country of harmony, a land of wisdom, a place of the soul 🌸. The photo shows the entrance to Nio, leading to Kiyomizu Temple, located in Kyoto. This legendary place is a sight to behold. I’ll just say one thing – don’t drink right from local springs 🍶😉. »

« Hello everyone. Here’s a little report from the ancient cultural capital of Japan: Kyoto. Just 50 minutes on the morning express and the stone walls of Osaka transform into the ancient temples of Kyoto. The day was pleasantly warm and sunny, which was quite a treat for this time of year. Despite the fading autumn colors and leaves falling from the trees, there was a refreshing lightness in the air.

It was really nice to stroll along the streets under the daily sunshine, we even stopped by a little stall for some mochi, though I must confess we had to dodge a few leaves falling from above. In one of the local parks, we encountered so many girls and women dressed in yukata (probably celebrating a local festival 🤔), I could hardly believe there were so many in one day. The breathtaking cultural landmarks were everywhere. Just the entrance to one shrine has you pondering how much effort went into crafting such beauty from ancient materials.

And what about the vibrant colors and architecture of the shrines? 😬 Compared to Europe, they possess a unique charm that draws you in with their eastern allure. »

« Another ancient capital - the city of Kyoto. It's more provincial compared to the giants of Tokyo and Osaka. Here, low-rise buildings dominate the landscape. You absolutely must visit the Gion district. I was once impressed by the book "Memoirs of a Geisha," so we headed to Gion in the evening – the most famous geisha district in Japan. To be honest, I wasn't particularly "in love" with Kyoto at first – maybe due to the bad weather or perhaps my unmet expectations. But when I arrived in Gion, my opinion changed dramatically! The old town, narrow twisting streets, light spilling from tightly closed windows, sparking a wild interest to peek inside, and the real geishas walking by - it felt like stepping into a completely different time. Japan is a remarkably fascinating country, with its rich history and traditions that are still honored and upheld, while confidently looking to the future. Coming here, you realize this is the future and people are already living in it. »

« Kyoto is an incredible city. We've been there twice, and if we ever find ourselves in Japan again, we'll definitely return (for at least three or four days). It's impossible to see and experience everything even on the first and second visit! Partially because temples and gardens across the country close very early (around 4:30-5:00 PM). 🌸✨ »
