Getting Around

On Foot
Walking in Sofia is free, and it's the best way to explore the city’s historical sites like Alexander Nevsky Cathedral and Vitosha Boulevard. For an insider tip, take the scenic route through the small streets around Serdika Metro Station for a charming glimpse of local life and lesser-known cafes.
Bus
Sofia's bus system covers the city extensively, with tickets costing 1.60 BGN when purchased from a kiosk or vending machines, and they are valid for 60 minutes across all buses. To save money, consider getting a monthly pass for only 50 BGN if you plan to use the buses frequently.

« This is Sofia: smelling of fragrant roasted pumpkin, white with exotic snow, and somehow reminiscent of Milan with its monumental buildings and tangled tram wires :) Such a wildly cozy city, I definitely want to come back here to explore all the interesting places, hike up Vitosha mountain, and take my time to capture everything beautifully. »

« If I lived in Sofia, I would probably choose a street like this. I really liked Vasil Levski Boulevard, with its old buildings painted in brick tones. But it's a big and noisy street, so living there wouldn't be ideal. However, somewhere nearby would be just perfect :) »

« Sofia. We liked the nature around and the mountains even more :) »

« We visited the capital of Bulgaria, Sofia. A dull and uninspiring city... Instead of the bright red double-decker tourist bus, we got some blue clunker :) so we decided to walk around. The highlight of our trip turned out to be a restaurant))) Even in the center, everything looked half-destroyed. Overall, if anyone is planning a trip to Sofia, you might as well skip it - you won't miss much))) »

« I don't really know what to show in Sofia - there's no uniqueness here, plus the weather is very Baltic today: "if you don't like the weather, just wait 5 minutes; if you do like it, don't get too comfortable and wait another 5." So it's a series of quick hops from the church to the café, back to the church, then to the pub, again to the church, and finally to the market! 😊 »
