« Is Rome Expensive? 🇮🇹☕️🍷🍝⛲️🚕💰💳💶📸
This is quite useful information since when going on vacation, it's often hard to know what budget to plan for. 🤷🏼‍♀️ Below are average expenses, excluding fancy restaurants and Michelin-starred places!
FOOD/WINE ☕️🍝🍷
Espresso - €2
Cappuccino - €2.5-3
Aperitif - €10
Glass of wine - €5-7
Pizza - €10-15
First course (pasta, risotto) - from €15-20 for simple pasta like spaghetti al pomodoro, Carbonara (seafood pasta starts from €25-30)
Second course (meat) - €25, Fish is always more expensive - €35
Side dish - €9
Dessert - €8
Ice cream - 2 scoops €3-3.5
ATTRACTIONS ⛲️📸
Museum tickets are around €16-25, some more expensive, some less.
It's better to buy all tickets in advance online - you'll spend extra €2 for booking but avoid standing in lines!
Panoramic viewpoints (St. Peter's Dome, Vittoriano roof) - €7-10
Open City Tour double-decker bus (visits all main attractions) - €18, ticket valid for 24 hours
TRANSPORTATION 🚕🚌
Public transport - €1.5 ticket for bus/metro/tram (valid for 1.5 hours)
Taxi - works on meter, but there's an initial charge of €6 🙄🤷🏼‍♀️, higher rates apply on holidays, weekends, and evening/night hours
TOURIST TAX 💰
At check-out, be prepared to pay a tourist tax depending on hotel rating and number of nights.
If staying in apartments, like Airbnb, you'll also need to pay a minimum tax. »

« Capitoline Museum - this is one of the oldest museums in the world, located in the Capitoline Square, originally designed by Michelangelo. The museum consists of three buildings - the old senator's palace, the Palazzo dei Conservatori, and the New Palace.

Pope Sixtus IV established the museum in 1471, when he donated several ancient bronze statues to the Roman people (one of which depicts a boy holding a pig).

⭐1) The entrance fee is €15 for adults + €6 for the audio guide on the iPad with detailed explanations of the exhibits (available in multiple languages).

⭐2) How much time should you allocate? If you love art and want to immerse yourself in masterpieces, you could easily spend around 3 hours there.

⭐3) Is it worth it? I’ll tell you right away that the museum is absolutely enormous. Among the various exhibits, you can see paintings, and a significant portion is filled with ancient statues, some dating back to the 15th-16th centuries! If you're genuinely interested in art, go for it; if you just want a quick visit for the sake of it, maybe save your time and money. »

« The ticket price is 13 euros (with it, you can also visit the Forum and Palatine Hill). We're still debating whether to go there or not?! 🤔 It's such a dilemma. Just today, we wandered around Colosseum and Forum! 🏛️🏛️🏛️ »

« You can find these little cars in Rome. Gasoline is €1.32 now. That’s more than $1.40, so it’s relevant. I would love to have one of those! »
@ksunya_lipova
« Don't hold back on time and money for the Vatican!!! It's definitely worth a visit... Entry is 21 dollars and the audio guide is 8 dollars. It's worth mentioning that this is the first museum in 5 days where there is an audio guide in our native language. That’s kind of disappointing, by the way. »
@chydokolesnikova
« Visiting the Vatican - done ✅ Take the elevator + 320 steps and you won’t believe such beauty exists... Although it says at the entrance that no amount of money in the world can buy such a view, it's a lie! They can! 8 euros solve everything! »
@samr357
« A massive dome of the basilica towers above me, and you can climb it for 6 euros. The view from up there of the basilica is great. More on that later. »

« Vatican City
We booked a "Vatican Museums" tour online in advance (thanks to everyone who recommended doing that). The entrance ticket (skip the line!!!) plus a 2-hour guided tour cost €34. There’s also a tour of the "Vatican Gardens," but tickets were sold out (you need to book far in advance). After the tour, we stayed to explore the halls we missed with the guide and revisited places like the Raphael Rooms and the Sistine Chapel... In the evening, there were fewer people around. We ended up spending almost the whole day in the Vatican Museums from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM. We had lunch there too. Later, we attended Mass at St. Peter's Basilica and stayed until closing at 7:00 PM. It was truly majestic! We didn't go up to the viewpoint yesterday because it was raining. I felt the essence of the Vatican with all my heart and soul. »

« Piazza Navona. A large, beautiful fountain, lots of cafes, and crowds of people. You can listen to local musicians and get your caricature drawn for €10. 🎨🎶 »
@rimdream
« Drinking fountains... We encountered them frequently not just in Rome, but in other cities of Italy as well. I’m amazed that you can just walk up and drink water without boiling it. The water flows clear and tasty. The kids especially loved the fountains: they could drink straight from the tap, put their faces under the stream, or splash their siblings... We carried empty 1.5-liter bottles and filled them with water. It was really hot, and the water disappeared in an instant, so by the next fountain, we were coming up with empty bottles. You quickly get used to the good things, and we got used to being able to drink water anywhere in Rome. We didn't expect that near the Colosseum there wouldn't be our lifesaving fountains, or even stores to buy water, just vendors trying to sell you a half-liter bottle for €2! The most expensive water is near the Colosseum and in airports. We had to feel like we were in a desert, sipping little by little. But the joy we felt when we found a drinking fountain again in the Trastevere area was priceless! Even adults dove into the water and rejoiced like kids. »

« While in Italy, you might break the law without even realizing it. In the historic center of Rome, eating is actually prohibited! You can't eat pizza, sandwiches, or drink refreshments on the pedestals or railings of monuments, fountains, stairs, or squares. Offenders face fines ranging from $27 to $540. »
@andreys
« Well, I have to say, the Colosseum didn't really impress me much. I don't quite see what's worth 12 euros for entry, but it's still cool to see!)) »
@torshina.elena
« They already managed to con me out of 145 dollars for a taxi from the airport. When the fair price should be at most 70 dollars. I'm really disappointed. I haven't been scammed or robbed only in Cuba and Thailand. »
@irynachemodan
« It seems a bit pricey to charge 10 euros for entry. It's so hot today, and everyone who comes in is sitting in the shade on the steps. »
@margarita.terekhova
« Another miss of the day, besides the bikes, was that we bought online tickets to the Colosseum for €20, only to arrive and be told that today is some kind of Sunday and entry is free. »
@eduardgebel
« Today we went to the sea in Nettuno. It's a little town 60 km from Rome with a beach. A one-hour train ride costs €3.60. »
@olga_s_instagram
« Shopping is a bit tricky :) Sales haven't hit yet, and prices are generally the same as back home :((( If there is something cheaper, it's definitely not where I usually go ;) »
@sever001
« A thrilling attraction for €60, you get 10 minutes behind the wheel driving through Rome.  »
@little.mu
« The metro in Rome is honestly terrible. The price of this dubious pleasure is €1.50. »
@e.karavatskaya
« Italian tradition - coffee at the bar counter. $1.10 ☕ »
@kriukovamarina
« "Going to the museum to see cats against the backdrop of ruins - €15 per person. Human stupidity - priceless)" »
@mariucciad
« Today, entry to the Colosseum is €1, compared to the usual €12. »
@neparamosha
« I was lucky with the hotel in Rome! But in Italy, you have to pay a tax! It’s €6 per night per person... not really clear why. Tomorrow, we’ll explore Rome on our own! ^^ »
@lucieferius
« The view of Rome from the Vittoriano terrace is breathtaking—a monument dedicated to King Victor Emmanuel II of unified Italy.

You can reach the terrace of Vittoriano, located 75 meters high, for just seven euros. But don't worry, you won’t have to climb numerous stairs to get to this height. An elevator will take you straight to the terrace. »
@solmarsiempre
« I wanted to buy an embroidery kit as a keepsake. But in Rome, it's nearly impossible. There are no kits with Aida cloth. They only have kits with designs on large fabric or just fabric with a design but no threads. The photo shows just the fabric with a design, measuring approximately 40x50 cm, priced at €85.80. »
@olgasycheva
« The greatest happiness of the day) sneakers for 6 euros at a flea market in Rome) I always bring a ton of shoes with me, and it never pays off: training heels, spring boots that turned out to be too hot, and ballet flats that for some reason rub my feet so much. But today, after lunch, it was pure bliss) and I walked around all day! »
