« Venice, chapter 1 "Familiarity". Having been to Rome, Milan, Genoa, Turin, I thought that Venice was just another Italian city, but it stands out – here transportation is done by boats instead of cars. No! Venice is an incredible creation! It's the best that could have been created by Titian, Botticelli, Vivaldi, Galileo, Da Vinci, all taken together. It’s beautiful everywhere here. Even if, like a backdrop, a wall of a four-hundred-year-old house, the brick of which keeps the secrets of generations, modestly peeks out from the water. Narrow alleys, where to pass by a meeting person, you have to squeeze against the wall. And suddenly walking along which, you may find yourself in an unexpectedly wide square, decorated with a monument to some noteworthy resident of Venice. The streets and walls of the houses are the silent witnesses of the lives and creations of people whose names have long become a part of human history. It's an astonishing, surreal, and uplifting city. Perhaps, having visited Florence, my impression would have changed, but Venice is something you need to see and feel! It’s all about the feeling. Because neither photos, nor videos, nor words can convey what these alleys, boats, numerous cafes, gatherings, and breathtaking beauty of the canals hold within them. 🌊✨ »
As soon as the sun dips below the horizon, it gets dark and chilly; tourists vanish from the streets, and the city becomes what they say is ‘buried’. Walking around at night can be quite eerie, because you encounter many tourists (and other visitors) on the streets. Side streets are incredibly narrow, with most around 1.5-2 meters wide. There are a few larger ones (3-4 meters), but practically all streets are tight. The buildings are tall (3-4 stories). Because of this, it can feel somewhat labyrinthine. The nights can easily lose their warmth, and by evening, it feels quite dim. I’ve taken two walks after sunset; it felt very strange.
Especially memorable was a moment when a certain creature started growling at me like a dog and chased me down the street. 😡 My advice? When the sun disappears, just go inside. The lighting in the city is practically nonexistent. At night, Venice becomes quite creepy and eerie. 🥶 »
Whimsical, funny, and even spooky masks exchanged hands, making everyone look back in awe. 😍 Speaking of which, the famous golden lion wasn’t as vibrant as we might have expected. The winged lion, depicted on the flag, is unwaveringly lifted above the heads of tourists to the sound of applause.
And still, it’s mesmerizing! A video shows just a glimpse of this magical event. 😉 »
I fell in love with Venice, despite all the stories about its dampness, mold on the houses, unpleasant musty smells, and dirty water, etc. For me, Venice is the scent of coffee, the sea, carnival masks, glass arts, and fresh pastries. The narrow, winding streets with unexpected turns, leading to yet another narrow alley that takes you further, left the biggest impression on me. »
A fairytale city... indescribable emotions... romance just hangs in the air, and it's impossible not to feel it...
I really want to go back again!)) »
