« Life in Switzerland: expensive or just right? 😬
We're soaking in the beauty of winter Zurich.
I fulfilled my dream—especially since I was at a Hollywood Undead concert there.
Yesterday, it hit me that Zurich is not a cheap place to be. Oh no, that was Bern.
Zurich is notoriously pricey (just like the rest of the country). The cost of a regular croissant with butter here is about $12, compared to $3 in Germany and $5 in Austria. That's a staggering difference! The exchange rate is roughly on par with the euro.
We didn't convert any money; we paid by card or accepted change in euros or Swiss francs (though receiving francs felt a bit off since the euro's value is higher. For instance, 22 francs is about $20). 😎😄 What a quirky system!
I always take my food with me, except when it comes to Starbucks coffee (a medium latte with coconut is about 9 francs - $7.50). So when you travel through Europe, even Europeans find ways to be thrifty to avoid those outrageous prices. »

« This "bujurka" stove is sold at Migros for 219 dollars. The Swiss are seriously preparing for the global energy crisis. »

« Day 1. Zurich. It's raining, all the photos show sad faces because the city is really nice, but the weather is terrible. Expensive. So expensive that you just want to come here, earn some money in euros, and go back)) Yesterday I had a shawarma for about $11, and today I realized that was a bargain) Here, the only thing cheaper than $1 is air. And even that, I'm not so sure it's free. »

« Here they are - the locals, with an average salary of 10,000 Swiss francs (which is about the same in euros) and in Zurich, you can just walk amongst the money vaults... And no matter how much you jump, you won't fall down there :) »
@tatbiana
« That's all about Zurich!!! A couple of days is definitely enough to explore the city! The prices are absolutely insane!!! I kept multiplying everything by a hundred and was categorically refusing to add two zeros—one was already too much! )) »
@irinafilat
« Zurich is a serene lakeside promenade, with crystal clear water and beautiful buildings lining the shore, expensive hotels, and the priciest shops and restaurants. There are no crowds of tourists, rush, or fuss. It's a place you could truly call home! The average salary in Switzerland is around 5,600 CHF (approximately $6,200), while the minimum wage is about 4,000 CHF. »

« It evoked completely mixed emotions and impressions for me. It's a bit strange. It's neither France nor Germany (although it's definitely closer to Germany). There are a ton of shops; the entire center is submerged in them. The navigation is excellent, but the prices are quite high. »

« Zurich. The little city surprised me. At first, it was pleasant. There weren't many people, even fewer cars, and on the main street, Bahnhofstrasse, it was quiet. But then it took a turn. The prices here are just crazy. On the bright side, the men are quite the fashionistas, strutting around in suits. I get that they’re probably bank employees, but still, very stylish! 😄 Yet another downside: the entire city is under construction, and it is all dug up. Not the greatest impression, to say the least. »
@kopilecjelenaborisovna
« A city you want to return to. But only with a well-filled wallet. In this city, $150 for a watch is quite a standard price. »
@natalia_naplavkova
« The average monthly salary in Switzerland is 4,000 CHF, particularly in Zurich it’s around 10,000 CHF. 😊 »
@stadnik_anna
« Well, it's all about the narrow streets, beautiful architecture, and unrealistically high prices for everything... »
@sasha_a_v
« Zurich captivated me, but the prices here are certainly not small. We're awaiting our flight to Rome. »

« It costs 2 Francs to ride a horse, but you can't ride twice in a row so all the kids get a chance too. ;)) »
@tatiana.kult
« The view of Zurich from the Grossmünster tower is breathtaking. It’s 4 francs for adults and 2 francs for students. A brisk climb up the steep steps and you've made it! »
@luzannnn
« Among all the countries we've visited, Switzerland surprised us the most with its prices. Even considering that the minimum salary is €3,500, the cost of goods is inexplicably high. A Big Mac costs €14.50, and the minimum rent for an apartment is €2,200. But the stores here are unbelievably cool. »
@romanluka
« Swiss Birkin for 299 Swiss Francs!))) Hermès must be going crazy!)) »
@annaefremova39
« Here’s where the best economy is, it's in Switzerland! 😊 Restrooms for 2€, drinks from the fridge are pricier than usual...)) Yes, Zurich is just like that! 1600 restaurants, 50 museums! The air is filled with the scent of money, chocolate, luxury... It’s lovely to stroll through the ancient streets and feel like a part of it all, if only for a moment! »
@tanyaismylove
« Here’s Zurich from above. A beautiful city, and the photos really don’t capture its charm. Everything would be perfect if it weren’t for the prices. But then again, this is Switzerland. »
@annsky2013
« Beautiful city. I was welcomed by rain and high prices, but parking in the center was affordable (4 francs) for a couple of hours, especially when a day pass for public transport costs 8.40 for one person. »
