« Just now, another three large mangoes fell from the tree. That’s an extra kilogram of free lunch for budget travelers. El Salvador turned out to be not as expensive as Rio or São Paulo. We’re renting a place for $40 for three people, which includes several kilograms of free mangoes a day and breakfast. The town, although somewhat dangerous, is quite pleasant. Poorly dressed locals bustle everywhere, glancing at us. Eating in the city center can be a pricey affair, but if you buy something from the shops, you can stick to a budget-friendly amount. For example, a can of local beer in the store is around $1, while it costs $3 in a restaurant. »

« The view from the upper city of Salvador reveals the lower city and All Saints Bay. The Elevador Lacerda takes everyone from the lower city to the upper for just a small fee; the ride costs 0.15 reais (around $0.03). The yellow building at the bottom is Mercado Modelo, a local souvenir market that's quite a colorful spot! Just around the corner to the right is the port of Salvador, making this one of the first sights we encountered after stepping off the ship. 😊 »

« The view from our neighborhood to the ocean is stunning, and we take the elevator down for just 10 cents for both of us!))) »

« Pelo Horizonte transports you from sunny Brazil to medieval Europe, with its cobblestone streets, colorful little houses, and quaint churches. The street musicians add a special charm, playing on drums; there are a ton of them, usually performing in groups of at least 10. It looks super impressive—there's this vibe of a constant celebration, and everyone seems to be having a great time. I never thought it would be so amazing here!

The only downside is that there's an entrance fee for all the churches! It costs around $1, which isn't too much, but it adds up when you visit several... I found out that Salvador is the birthplace of the martial dance capoeira. They say there are a lot of dancers at night; I haven't seen them yet, but I really hope to! »
