Beng Melea
Beng Melea, situated about 40 kilometers east of Siem Reap, is a 12th-century temple intricately enveloped by lush jungle. Unlike the more famous Angkor Wat, this lesser-known site showcases impressive Khmer architecture and remains largely unrestored, offering a glimpse of its raw, historical essence. The temple complex, covering roughly 1 square kilometer, features crumbling stone pathways and captivating relief carvings that tell stories of the past. Visiting during the dry season from November to April allows for easier exploration of its ruins. As you wander through Beng Melea, you'll encounter a blend of nature and history, with gigantic trees growing among the stones and the tranquil sound of the forest around you.
