Batu Caves

  Batu Caves rises dramatically at Jalan Batu Caves, just 11 kilometers north of Kuala Lumpur. Dating back to the late 19th century, this iconic site serves as a Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Murugan and features a towering 42.7-meter golden statue at its entrance. Visitors can navigate through three main caves filled with colorful shrines and intricate sculptures, with the largest cave known as the Temple Cave offering a stunning view from the 272 steps leading up to it. The site is particularly vibrant during Thaipusam, typically held in January or February, when thousands of devotees gather for the festival. While exploring, keep an eye out for the local wildlife, including the abundant macaques that call the caves home.
