Wat Phra Yai
Wat Phra Yai, often known as the Big Buddha, is located on the northern coast of Koh Samui near Bang Rak Beach. Constructed in 1972, this 12-meter tall statue is one of Thailand’s most revered landmarks. It serves as a significant spiritual center, attracting visitors who come to pay their respects and enjoy the surrounding views of the island. Visitors can explore the temple grounds and witness various offerings and ceremonies, especially during the Thai new year in April when the site becomes particularly vibrant. In addition to the impressive Buddha statue, guests can see smaller shrines adorned with intricate decorations and serene lotus ponds, enhancing the tranquil atmosphere.
