Kastellet
Kastellet, a well-preserved star-shaped fortress, sits just north of Copenhagen's city center near the iconic Little Mermaid statue. Built in the 17th century, it originally served as a military site to protect the city, and today, its lush green grounds and historical buildings are popular for leisurely strolls. Spanning about 600 meters, visitors can walk along its ramparts and enjoy views of the surrounding area while spotting various bird species that inhabit the site. The charming windmill located on the eastern edge adds a picturesque touch, making it a pleasant stop year-round, especially during the warmer months from April to September. Along the paths, you’ll find cannons and a museum detailing the fortress’s rich history, making it an engaging experience for history buffs and casual visitors alike.
