Monolithos Castle

  Monolithos Castle rises on the southwestern coast of Rhodes, approximately 60 kilometers from the city center, high atop a rocky cliff that offers panoramic views of the Aegean Sea. Dating back to the 15th century, it was constructed by the Knights of St. John to protect against invasions. The castle's primary feature is its well-preserved defensive walls and towers that once safeguarded the surrounding area. Visitors often explore the site year-round, but a visit in September allows for pleasant weather and fewer crowds. While wandering through the ruins, you can admire the remnants of several old churches nestled within the castle grounds, along with captivating views that showcase the rugged beauty of the coastline.
