Gellert Hill

  Rising above the banks of the Danube River in Budapest's Gellért Hill district, this prominent landmark offers both historical significance and a remarkable view. The hill has served as a lookout point since the Middle Ages, originally named after Saint Gerard, who is said to have been thrown from its cliffs. Today, Gellert Hill is primarily known for the Citadel, a fortress constructed in 1854, as well as the iconic Liberty Statue that stands tall at 14 meters. In the spring months of March through May, visitors flock to experience the vibrant flora that covers the hill, featuring a mix of native trees and flowering plants.
