LU Botāniskais Dārzs
Dating back to 1803, LU Botāniskais Dārzs, or the University of Latvia Botanical Garden, is situated along Krišjāņa Barona iela in Riga's central region. This botanical garden spans approximately 16 hectares and serves as both a research facility and a public park, housing over 8,000 species of plants. One interesting historical note is that it originally started as the Botanical Garden of the Riga City University before becoming part of the University of Latvia in 1919. Visitors can enjoy guided tours, explore diverse plant collections, or simply stroll through the meticulously designed pathways, particularly vibrant during blooming months like May and June. Throughout the year, the tropical greenhouse showcases unique flora like palm trees and orchids, providing a fascinating insight into various ecosystems.
