Natura Artis Magistra
Dating back to 1838, Natura Artis Magistra is Amsterdam's oldest zoo, nestled in the Plantage neighborhood near the impressive Hermitage Museum. Originally established as a place to study nature, it now serves as a botanical garden, an aquarium, and home to over 900 species of animals, including the iconic African elephants and majestic Amur tigers. The zoo’s lush pathways are ideal for leisurely strolls, especially during the vibrant spring months of April and May when flowers bloom throughout the grounds. Visitors can enjoy interactive exhibits, such as the planetarium and a butterfly garden, making it a diverse experience for all ages. With its blend of education and conservation, Natura Artis Magistra remains a key attraction in the heart of Amsterdam.
