« We visited Tiananmen Square and made it to the Great Wall of China, what an experience! To explore the attractions in China, you really need to stock up on endless patience. The locals love their country and travel around it constantly, so don’t be surprised to see crowds of them everywhere. Standing in line with a bunch of loud, unruly individuals and their even louder kids was just the first trial! Then there was the ticket queue, followed by the entry line, and once inside, it was just chaos... You’ll find yourself thirsty the whole time with the heat around 95 degrees and absolutely no breeze. We didn't enjoy it at all; we just wanted to leave! But wait, we had to endure a two-hour wait for the bus back to the city! It was pure madness, though at least at the entrance they sell these giant cucumbers and cherry tomatoes. One useful tip: there's a discount for ISIC holders! It's best to go with local friends who can show you the less restored parts of the wall. Otherwise, the visit can turn into a nightmare with people trying to squeeze money out of you at every corner. We realized that the hard way! »
A significant part of Shanghai is occupied by landmarks from the colonial era – including European-style architecture. The French Concession is a prime example of this. On hot days, the streets make for a lovely stroll, thanks to the towering century-old plane trees that were planted during the time the French lived here. 🌳🌞 »
