Great Wall at Mutianyu
Nestled in Huairou District, the Great Wall at Mutianyu is a remarkable section of the ancient fortification that stretches over 2,500 kilometers across northern China. This specific part was first built during the Northern Qi Dynasty (550-577 AD) and later rebuilt in the 1560s, showcasing its enduring historical significance. Unlike other more crowded sections, Mutianyu is known for its less commercialized atmosphere and well-preserved watchtowers, making it a wonderful spot for explorers. Open year-round, visitors have the chance to hike its 2.5 km of restored pathways and enjoy views of the surrounding mountains, especially vibrant during the autumn months of October and November. Here, history truly comes alive as you walk along the stone steps that have stood for centuries.
