Magellan's Cross
Magellan's Cross, a significant historical landmark in Cebu City, is located beside the Basilica Minore del Santo Niño on Avenida de la Imprenta. Erected in 1521 by Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan, this wooden cross symbolizes the introduction of Christianity to the Philippines. Encased in a protective structure, the original cross is now a central feature for visitors who come to pay their respects and take photos. Visiting in January can be particularly lively, as it coincides with the Sinulog Festival, celebrated in honor of the Santo Niño. As you explore, you can observe the vibrant local culture and perhaps even witness prayer offerings from both tourists and locals.
