« Quito is big. Massive. Spread across emerald hills, surrounded by equally emerald mountains. On the streets, you’ll see small women in traditional outfits (not everyone, but there are quite a few :)), in the historic district, they sell coca leaves, empanadas, and tropical fruits. From cafes and restaurants, long Spanish songs fill the air. Gothic churches and charming old mansions stand next to modern gated upscale neighborhoods. I haven't really seen overtly impoverished areas, but there are sleepy beggars and quirky characters on the streets. The city buzzes during the day and falls asleep with the sunset. I like it :) »
