Getting Around

Motorcycle/Bike
In Colombo, moto rides are easily available via apps like PickMe or Uber, costing around LKR 150-600 depending on distance, and you can pay through cash or in-app wallets for convenience. Insider tip: always confirm the driver’s identity and vehicle details before hopping on, especially around busy areas like Pettah or Fort!
On Foot
Colombo's walkable routes are abundant, especially around Fort and Galle Face Green, offering free access to scenic views and local eateries—just keep hydrated, as the heat can be intense during the day. For a safe stroll, avoid busy roads during rush hour (7-9am, 5-7pm) and stick to well-lit areas after dark.

« It's just unbelievable! 😍 The atmosphere, nature, trees, plants 🙏🌱 Everything here is simply amazing and awe-inspiring. No wonder people here are mostly friendly and warm, no matter how tough life gets. 💖😱 I’m in awe! 💖

As a bonus to all this local beauty, the prices are fantastic 😏💸 The most expensive dish at the restaurant where I stayed costs around €12, while you can grab a snack for just 50 cents. 🚀 »

« Soon, something new 🎉! Colombo turned out to be a delightful place. Clean, well-maintained, with beautiful architecture both modern and historical. But the most vivid impression was visiting the home of the great architect of Asia, Jeffrey Bawa, a master of tropical modernism. Just for this style, it's worth the trip to Sri Lanka.

And the culinary experience here is also impressive. After being somewhat disappointed by Japanese cuisine at a restaurant, I found that Sri Lankan gastronomy is quite strong. Ministry of Crab is absolutely deserving of its 29th place in Asia's 50 Best list, offering everything crab-related in a marvelous setting. The prices here are more than reasonable, sitting under $20 for a meal that reflects the true essence of the cuisine. The crabs are all splendid, and the flavor was one of the best I've ever had, truly amazing!  »

« Yesterday, we went to Colombo to explore the city. Civilization has definitely made its mark here, which is refreshing. You can find skyscrapers, nice cars, and shopping malls—perhaps not quite like in the biggest cities, but still impressive. The streets are lit with lights and garlands, and there are Santas and elves at every turn, though I didn't spot any reindeer, and maybe that's for the best. There are Christmas trees both in malls and on the streets. It was an amazing experience, almost as if I had traveled to another country; my Sri Lanka is so diverse! 🎄✨ »

« We visited the capital of Sri Lanka: one museum, McDonald's, and that was it! »

« Colombo is a cool city, strange but not bad. One thing though - I feel like a superstar here, everyone stares, talks, and wants to touch. "Look, I’m black, and you’re white." It gets a bit tiring, so it’s better to move back and forth between tourist areas and local spots. And avoid the tuk-tuk drivers who will take you to a super fancy shopping mall! 😅 »
