Temple of Literature
Temple of Literature, located at 58 Quốc Tử Giám in Hanoi, is Vietnam's first national university, established in 1070. This site was dedicated to Confucius and served as an important center of learning for centuries. A prominent feature of the temple complex is the beautifully landscaped gardens, which include stelae of stone turtles that commemorate scholars who excelled in the royal examinations, with a total of 82 stelae dating back to the 15th century. Visitors can explore the lush courtyards and admire the intricate architecture, particularly during the quieter months of January and February when there are fewer tourists. At the temple, you can also immerse yourself in local traditions, as students often come here to pray for good fortune in their studies.
