Getting Around

On Foot
Walking in Rome is free and allows you to explore iconic areas like Trastevere and the Colosseum at your own pace, but don't forget to carry a refillable water bottle as many public fountains serve fresh drinking water. Also, be cautious at crosswalks; drivers may not always yield to pedestrians!
Tram
Rome's tram system costs €1.50 per ride and operates from 5:30am to 12:30am, effectively connecting you to popular areas like Trastevere and Termini. To save money, consider purchasing a 24-hour travel pass for €7.00 that gives you unlimited rides on trams, buses, and the metro.

« 1- This is not a place for everyone,
2- I was feeling physically unwell,

4- I immediately wanted to read about Caligula and rewatch all the Gladiator films. »

« In the courtyard of Saint Angelo, you'll find everything you need for an incredible selfie. The view is absolutely breathtaking. Swans pose like models, and the soft sunlight shining down creates a magical atmosphere. You can truly feel the fresh spring air all around you. Angelo Castle in Rome is the perfect spot for a memorable selfie! 📸✨ »

« Rome❤️
Long awaited Rome! Early in the morning we set out and rushed to the Vatican! Why rush?! Because the time is limited, and we wanted to see everything!!! It was about 1.5 km from our hotel, and we walked since finding parking in Rome is a challenge... it was hot, but we had a goal))) Upon arriving at the Vatican, there were a million people!!!! What was required? To wait)))

The line to get in was enormous!!! But a lovely woman approached us, who offered us a tour in English, along with a special pass to skip the line) Of course, we agreed)) The group gathered quickly, and once inside the Vatican, everyone dispersed quickly, and we were on our way))) Getting through with a group was practically impossible without a guide, so we passed through the museum with some shortcuts))) I won't write about the beauty and how everything is amazing there, you can imagine))

In the end, we were invited to see the Sistine Chapel, and beforehand, the guide explained the rules – no talking, no photography... we, as usual, prepared to enjoy the masterpiece... as we entered, there was noise, chatter, clicking cameras... in general, everyone seemed to completely ignore the rules)))) It honestly kind of shocked me... I thought only tourists would do that 🫣

Then we were offered to take a break at the viewing platform, but we got pushed back in line 😤. We decided it was essential to stay focused!!!!

After exploring the Vatican, we decided to indulge in the most delicious pizza, dessert, and prosecco 🥂💗 since we were in Rome)))

As it was all one museum, we figured we still had some energy left and headed to the Roman Forum. Naturally, we walked there, and at the forum, the heat was unbearable... but we still strolled around and enjoyed ourselves)))

I'm sharing this story and just recalling that feeling of euphoria!!! Energy is all around!!!
On the way back to the metro.... we popped into a store, bought some local souvenirs, and set off to recharge our energies for the next day!!!! »

« I bought a collection of sandwiches from St. Petersburg, and it seems like they're closer than you think. It looks like all you need to do is bypass the maze and you can practically reach them by hand. However, the impression is that it just unfolds here, and it only takes a moment to see all those tiny people who made their way there ahead of you. »

« Saint Angel's Castle. I really enjoyed the bridge leading to the castle and the park surrounding it. It's very peaceful and tranquil. And here, Bernini gives a hand to the statue installed on this bridge. »

« 2. How I love this place! Well, what can I say? The sights in Rome are a must, but it can get complicated. I really wanted to see the Monet exhibition. I was so excited. But the queue was huge, and the waiting time was endless.

We checked out everything we could, even the Trevi Fountain twice 😄. And we even saw how they clean it 🤑. It was great to stroll around when there were fewer people. And we got lucky! Although it was under the rain 🌧️.

Accessibility is great, everything is nearby, which is awesome because it's easy to see them all in a day. Of course, we didn't make it to the Vatican, but we did manage to hit Trajan's Market, the Colosseum, the Temple of Peace, the Roman Forum, and, of course, the Pantheon (which is magnificent), from there to the Trevi Fountain and the Spanish Steps. And all the shops! My God, there are brands at every turn that are hard to resist 😩.

The number of tourists during the off-season is overwhelming. What a summer it must be! 😱

All in all, I wasn’t entirely taken by the hustle and bustle. But Rome itself is powerful and monumental, no doubt about it. The journey back was easy too.

We took the metro. Thank goodness it's just a short walk from the hotel. The Napoleone hotel. If you’re planning to book, be sure to take a look at it! The location is perfect! »
@aidariviera
« I really enjoy when a street of any origin ends up being more than just beautiful. At the end, you can see the Spanish Steps in Rome. It's a really nice spot for strolls. 😊 »
@karetnikova_ok
« Look at how they manage to look so fabulous!
Style and elegance, even in flip-flops 😄, especially when it's 50 degrees outside. These Italians are stunning 😍. Just for the style, I’d love to visit Italy to see how men dress here! »
@anastasiyakobz
« Many often mispronounce how this plant is correctly named. I prefer to call it "Spanish Moss"! 🌿 »

« Every time I buy a gelato in Italy, I always choose the smallest cup and hope it will actually be small. And every time, nope, every time, it’s not. They pack this cup full, as if it's meant to overflow. The photo doesn’t do it justice, as my hands trembled from the excitement. You wouldn’t recognize me when I’m back—I'm practically quivering with joy. 🍦 »

« Three sunny days, and I couldn't stop wandering around Rome from morning till evening. This is my fourth visit to this city, and only now have I discovered the unique opportunity to skip the lines at the major attractions like the Colosseum, palaces, squares, and museums. For the entire days, I couldn't focus on anything else but the beauty of this historic place.

Rome is a living history of many epochs, where one layer of history is laid over another, starting from ancient Rome to the Medieval, Renaissance, and Baroque periods, filled with astonishing masterpieces by legendary artists like Raphael, Michelangelo, Caravaggio, Bernini, and many others, not to mention the lasting influences of the Napoleonic era and Mussolini's reign.

I am at a loss for words to describe what I saw during these days. It's hard to believe that all this beauty has been preserved to modern times. I felt a genuine connection to history, to structures that are over 2000 years old!!! This time, I truly fell in love with history and art!

I know a lot about Rome and can share some tips on how to navigate as a tourist, what you should see and where to find great spots! Rome is a city where every step brings reminders of the grandeur of its past and its rich history! It’s an eternal city, older than many of the museums in the Western world!

P.S. I feel like I barely scratched the surface of all that Rome has to offer, perhaps even 20% of what's possible to see here. »
@ragazza_capricorno
« Rome. The ancient heart of the world, the capital of the Roman Empire, and now a vibrant part of modern Italy. An incredible city that holds the essence of history within its borders! The center of the Catholic world, the Vatican occupies a small portion of the city. Interestingly, Rome has only one official district, known as the "municipio" or borough. This is similar to Paris. "Only Paris is worthy of Rome, and only Rome is worthy of Paris." I can't help but love this city!!))) »
@aerabstractus
« Fountains in Rome are like a song 😍 Not just any song, but a whole symphony, each one unique!

On every small square, you’re bound to find a fountain, and on the larger squares, like Piazza del Popolo, they take center stage. And don’t forget the ancient obelisk in the middle – that’s a must-see!

The fountains are a delightful spot not just for tourists who flock to see them, but also for the locals, with doves fluttering around and real birds adding a touch of life. Occasionally, you might find some surprises, like huge turtles 🐢. At the end, there's the famous De' Trevi fountain. 🏛️💧 »

« I’ve had quite a few people ask me about my impressions of Rome, so I decided to write a little something on the topic 📜.

We booked our trip to Rome a while back, initially thinking we’d go in summer, but when summer rolled around, we decided against it due to the heat—temperatures soaring to +104°F and sweltering sun with throngs of tourists made it seem less appealing 😩.

We postponed our trip to September, but even then, we caught some nasty weather during our stay in Rome. And thank goodness for that! Those days turned out to be quite rainy and even chilly—definitely not the typical summer vibe 😅. September was more reminiscent of November. We faced strong downpours and it felt really cold; definitely not the relaxed summer atmosphere we had anticipated.

Anyway, here are my impressions of Rome. Rome is an extraordinary city with an immense heritage filled with architectural masterpieces and a unique atmosphere. I found myself frequently captivated by its vibe, debating whether I liked it or not. I felt like I needed to soak in the city's atmosphere and enjoy its Roman-like charm.

I was already unsure about what to expect, having read a mix of contrasting reviews 🤔. Some people were raving about it being the most beautiful city in the world, while others warned that it's quite dirty with trash everywhere. To be honest, I didn't notice any of the downsides others mentioned. As for cleanliness, we didn't really pay much attention since we were too busy enjoying the sights.

So, don’t take any reviews seriously—just travel, see the city through your own eyes, and explore without preconceptions. Allow yourself to be amazed, to marvel, and sometimes, it's okay to feel disappointed without fixating on the negatives.

Another note: we were very happy that tourism was relatively low when we visited, which made for a more pleasant experience. For instance, we didn't encounter any issues visiting the Vatican museums; we easily bought our tickets and didn’t have to wait in any lines! »
@alexdavydov76
« Rome in February is beautiful, especially because there are so few tourists. Fewer than a hundred people in Saint Peter's Basilica in the morning! It’s hard to imagine how crowded it would be at this time in summer... No lines to sit at a café, you can stroll through the streets without being squeezed against the walls of the buildings, and you can skip yet another delegation from Asia... perfetto! »
@evgeniyaguseva
« Once upon a time, the weather turned delightful 🌞, with the sun shining bright. It seems like everyone's talking about this breed of cats 🐈. However, so far I've not encountered a single gatto, while dogs are roaming around every corner 🐕. »
@x_angel_art
« Rome! It's beautiful! But living in Rome? Living in a museum surrounded by throngs of visitors? No way! Rome is for inspiration. It's for immersing in History, in the greatness of Human intellect! For permanent living, you'd want something more cozy, more homey. Though everyone determines for themselves what feels like a comfortable life. But not a museum. It's gorgeous, romantic, airy, just not a museum! 🌟✈️ »
@mariucciad
« A little stroll through the city of Vatican. Inside the Vatican, it’s just as beautiful as on the outside. You can visit two places there - if Pope Francis is holding an audience inside the Paul VI Hall or when you visit the ancient Necropolis. And these two events can be attended by anyone, but be sure to book well in advance! 😊 »
@livingintravels
« Sometimes it feels like all the tourists in Rimini are specifically gathering in the most beautiful spots 😍, just to capture endless photos of their cars and bikes in the background. 🤳 »
@greenareen
« Opening the window, you're greeted by the scent of sun-drenched Italy, and beyond the clouds, the deep blue sky seems limitless. After just ten minutes, the sun breaks through, and you're immersed in an experience that feels like a dreamy day in Venice. You take in all of this and think to yourself, this is how life should be, and it feels just right. ☀️💙 »
@lexo.solonevich
« Coliseum 🏛️ is a breathtaking sight, yet it carries the weight of its historical significance, especially given the harrowing events that took place within its walls. It's a powerful reminder of the darker aspects of human nature and the lengths people have gone to for entertainment. Visiting this iconic structure immerses you in a mix of awe and reflection, as you ponder the ancient rituals and spectacles that once captivated thousands. The atmosphere is palpable, blending both the grandeur and the tragedy of history. It's definitely worth the experience if you find yourself in Rome. 🏺✨ »
@bolonkina_vasileva
« Number one on our list is Pantheon — "the temple of all gods." Constructed back in 126 AD!!! Just imagine those numbers 😱 I personally get goosebumps from the architecture 🥵 In the center, there's a circular opening — through it, light streams into the temple. When it rains, water flows through this opening directly into the temple, but thankfully, thanks to the special design, it drains away and doesn't collect inside (and can you believe how clever that was back then? 🧙‍♂️).

Overall, the feelings are incredible! I also heard that if you stand directly under this opening, a person just sheds all their sins 🤔🧘‍♀️ Personally, I think it's a bit too simple to be true 😅 »
@katrinivanova
« 📍Place Navona
In the center, there is the Fountain of the Four Rivers 🌊 - a sculptural masterpiece by Bernini. The statues represent four rivers from four corners of the globe: the Nile, the Ganges, the Danube, and the La Plata. 🏞️
In ancient times, this square housed a stadium where athletic competitions were held. 🏃‍♂️ »
@diana_kolokolnikova
« Rome, I really don’t like that you’re completely renovating the Colosseum right now! The old one was much better, and the new one just won't be the same!  »
@yulianna_lagutik
« What could be better?!) A stroll through Rome, admiring the beauty and landmarks of this amazing city, delicious gelato, and just soaking in the moments...) The day flew by unnoticed.. It was unforgettable)) After returning, a nice dinner and some time spent with great Italian wine in good company))) »

« I was really impressed by the number of clergy on the streets; it seemed like every third person was either in a white collar or wearing a robe... »
@ol9plistru
« The Eternal City, where all roads lead, a place where you can live a lifetime during a single day of vacation or lose yourself for weeks... Rome is incredibly ancient yet eternally young, having witnessed both rise and fall. It’s a city of angels and demons! A city of all Saints! What more can I say...??? I'm completely mesmerized! »
@karine_sh8
« What I love about Rome is the abundance of fountains. There are three of them in Piazza Navona. We lingered for a while by the impressive Fountain of the Four Rivers. The buildings around, like much in this eternal city, are monumental. You can't help but wonder HOW this came to mind for someone? »
@yana.los
« Today was Rome... I’m leaving a photo of the Colosseum here because it was the first thing I saw when I stepped out of the subway. This is where my journey with the city began :) It’s funny to think about coming to Rome for just a day. You really need a week or two here :) The thrill of touching history gave me goosebumps! So many emotions, a million impressions :) »
@plotnikovakris
« Colosseum! I dreamed of being here for a whole year, and here we are! These are emotions that words cannot capture; you work so hard towards this, dreaming, planning, and finally, another goal achieved!💃 Go after your dreams, plan, love, and travel - it's the best medicine! »
@julek.aleynik
« The second place my friend recommended for a visit is Rome, which I decided to explore today. For those who have never been here or are just reading this, my initial thought was a disaster. How could anyone call this dump one of the most beautiful cities in the world?? But then, I somehow warmed up to it, and I must say, there is something about this city. Maybe it’s less hot in the evenings? 😊 »
@tanyhash
« Rome, from 2 to 7 PM everything's closed for siesta, and it's tough to find a decent meal unless you're in touristy spots. We ventured far from the center and discovered some local kvass, which was delicious. A light beer with 2% alcohol and a flavor of lemon and herbs was really refreshing in the heat! 🍻✨ »
@alenashein
« I loved walking down every street I hadn’t explored yet, my feet sore and blistered... That's how my wonderful autumn days passed in the best city on earth. I miss it so much... I close my eyes and stroll through the fairytale streets of Rome. I haven’t been everywhere, but I know I’ll return one day... »

« We really enjoyed Rome; it’s so diverse and vibrant! We wished we could have stayed longer, but we had to keep moving on. ☺️ »

« It's so great that Italy really knows how to do coffee!☕️☺️ I'm sitting right next to #PiazzaNavona and enjoying my perfect panna cotta! Yesterday I was lost... but today everything is different, today I fell in love with Rome!😌💛 »

« Twelve years ago, I perceived Rome differently than I do on this trip! Now, I want to return only when it's warm :) »
@kami_kadze
« The conclusion about Rome: it is undeniably beautiful, and its grandeur takes your breath away. The awareness of its ancient history is palpable. There’s an atmosphere here that is very important to me in order to love a city. However, I probably wouldn’t want to come back. It feels like a museum city, and I’m not really fond of museums. "Beautiful" is all I can say about Rome. P.S. I'm feeling a bit like a writer today! »
@kseniyapegushina
« Yesterday we said goodbye to Rome. I'm sure it's not forever. There are still a couple of unfinished things in this amazing city) Rome is beautiful, Italy is stunning. I honestly recommend everyone to visit this country. It will leave no one indifferent! Chao Italia! »
