For a scenic route, stroll along the Promenade du Lac to soak in breathtaking views without the hassle of transport.

Geneva's trams cover extensive areas every 7-15 minutes and cost CHF 3.00 for a single ride, which you can easily pay using the Geneva Public Transport app. To save money, consider getting a day pass for CHF 10.00, allowing unlimited travel on trams, buses, and trains throughout the city.

From Geneva Airport to the city center, there’s a train that runs every 7-10 minutes, making it an ideal way to ease into exploring during a layover. Overall, you can see most of Geneva in about 3 hours; I spent a bit more time since I wandered through some shops and ended up having lunch. 😊
I started by visiting the United Nations Palace, which was breathtaking. Opposite the palace, you’ll find a giant chair with one broken leg (I felt a bit silly staring at it, but I couldn't help myself).
From the UN Palace, I made my way toward the Palais des Nations and continued along the scenic waterfront towards the train station. It's quite enchanting, making you feel like you're in a magical place, not in Europe, but on a wonderful little island. 😍 To the left is a lake, and to the right are historic estates, museums, and kids playing on vibrant green lawns. Some are reading, others running around, and then there’s me, taking pictures of it all.
So, back to the waterfront, I turned around toward the train station, and from there set off to see the Jet d'Eau. After that, I headed to the Brunswick Monument, which is absolutely magnificent! Right there is an extraordinary restaurant that’s hard to miss. The covered pasta, the bronze-blue breeze, the ambiance – it put Geneva right at the top of my list of favorite cities.
I then walked to the main square, Bourg-de-Four – a historical center with old postcards. There’s the St. Pierre Cathedral, the Museum of Art & History, and beautiful parks where you can hear the laughter of children playing on swings everywhere in a sea of green. I was in complete bliss!
The way back to the train station took me through the center, and I got a bit lost (it’s easy to do). I went into a few shops and realized that shopping in Geneva is quite pleasant – you can find nice products everywhere, but there are hardly any people around! The selection is impressive, deals are tempting, but it’s not the chaotic kind of hustle you find in places like Munich or Milan.
Once I made it back to the station, I felt that familiar airport vibe again. It’s a very strange feeling – as if you’ve stepped out of reality and into a fairytale. 😌 Hopefully, I’ll get to see Geneva again someday! 🙌🏼 »
