Tokyo, a city like no other, is a sprawling metropolis that dazzles with its sheer size, luxury, and unceasing energy. By day, it’s vibrant and dynamic, while by night it transforms into a mesmerizing spectacle of lights that make the skyline seem alive. This buzzing heartbeat is felt no matter where you are in the city.

Known as the core of one of the world’s densest metropolitan areas, Tokyo is a fascinating maze. Its vast metro network is notoriously complex—navigating it solo for the first time can feel like a puzzle. In these towering concrete jungles, you might find yourself lost, only to discover that each area feels like an entirely new city. Tokyo’s diversity is endless, reflecting its many faces and hidden layers.

Getting Around

Metro
Tokyo's metro runs from 5am to midnight with fares ranging from 170 to 320 yen (purchase a Suica or Pasmo card for seamless travel). For the best experience, avoid rush hour (7-9am and 5-7pm) to sidestep the infamous crowding, especially on the Yamanote Line circling major hubs like Shibuya and Shinjuku.
On Foot
Walking in Tokyo is entirely free and lets you fully absorb the city's unique atmosphere, especially in vibrant neighborhoods like Shibuya or Asakusa where exploring on foot reveals hidden gems. To avoid getting lost, download local mapping apps like Google Maps or Maps.me, and keep an eye out for small signage indicating local attractions and routes.

« First day in Japan. I arrived at the hotel. The bus driver was so nice, he agreed to stop by the Imperial Palace before heading to the hotel. I wanted to see the East Gardens of the Japanese Emperor. It was getting late, and I couldn’t explore all the allowed areas, but I made sure to catch the main sights. The Japanese really love not only the cherry blossoms but also all that’s beautiful around them. Currently, the cherry blossoms are in bloom, and I went to see them. My first bright impression turned out to be colorful and extremely aromatic 🌸

In this part of Tokyo, past and future mix in a delightful way, creating a unique vibe 😊
It’s crisp. It’s beautiful. And somehow a bit chilly, especially without lunch. I bought some colorful snacks right in the hotel store, which was reasonably priced and looked delicious. I was delighted and later realized that I had taken a chance 🍱. Food took over my whole afternoon, and ahead was a visit to the renowned restaurant "Nindzya Akasaka." It’s pricey. It’s delicious. They serve dishes that you can't take pictures of 🤐 and prepare various delicacies in front of the guests.

From the restaurant, I hurried back to the hotel. Sleep! 🛏️ Tomorrow will be a challenging day. »

« Blossoms are in full swing! 🌸🌷 For the Japanese, this is the key event! There are cards with dates and locations of the flowers. Under each blooming tree, you can find loads of photographers capturing the beauty, and if you're lucky, you might even see some hummingbirds floating around, delicately sprinkling pollen. The best part is when the birds flit among the branches, creating a magical scene that feels like time has slowed down.

Enjoy the moments with us! 😊 »

« In Tokyo, I recommend everyone to visit! 🇯🇵😍💥

For me, it’s number one, a place I really want to return to. 🤩

I didn’t find any serious downsides! Tokyo is an expensive city, but it's worth every penny! 💰

In Tokyo:

✅ There’s something for everyone, and anyone can find something they love! Historical sights (temples, museums, the famous Tokyo Tower), the massive Akihabara district with tech and anime, the gigantic shopping areas like Shibuya and Harajuku, delicious food, and upscale restaurants.

✅ The cleanliness is ideal everywhere! (Streets are spotless, there's no trash, the metro is also very neat, no unpleasant smells, and in all the hotels where we stayed, there was impeccable cleanliness. We even learned that they have special instructions for any sort of work to keep everything tidy).

✅ The locals are friendly, smiling, and welcoming! The people in this beautiful country were so warm and kind! They will explain everything to you and even won't feel annoyed if you ask them many questions. They are raised to help others and not to create discomfort for others.

✅ The food. I love sushi, sashimi, and miso soup, and I can eat them anytime, that's a hundred percent true. And if you're looking for high-end cuisine, their regular dishes are just delicious.

✅ Public transportation. I don’t like large crowds, but in the metro, at least, everyone gets in line and waits patiently, and it feels so organized.

In taxis, it's a completely different story; all the drivers wear suits and have a professional charm, like in the movies. And on the roads, there's absolutely no chaos. »

« Japan boasts an incredibly advanced transportation system, featuring multi-level interchanges. They look especially stunning at night. Perhaps that's why most of the pictures of Tokyo on Google are taken in the dark! 🌆✨ »

« So glad to be back in Tokyo. This city is unreal... So much interesting stuff. »

« I'm on my first day in Tokyo, and I am just blown away by everything... 🌟 The energy is incredible, and the city is buzzing with life. The food? Absolutely delicious – I grabbed some sushi that was so fresh, it melted in my mouth. 🍣 Walking through the streets is an adventure in itself; every corner has something new to discover! From the stunning temples to the modern skyscrapers, it feels like a vibrant mix of tradition and innovation. Can't wait to explore more! 😍 »

« Here we are in Tokyo, a week into our journey. I won’t share my impressions of Tokyo, as I can’t form anything constructive; you really need to see it with your own eyes, smell the city with your nose, hear Tokyo with your ears, and taste it with your own senses... In short, it’s all about personal experience! 😊 »
@privet_nihon
« Walking through Akihabara, I realized that being an anime fan here at twenty can be risky. Too many temptations for an anime lover. At thirty, it’s much calmer. But still, it’s interesting out of habit 🙂 »

« Hello, Tokyo! First impressions: people are polite and always helpful (we ask often), everywhere is clean, it’s very windy, the metro is easy to navigate, labels on products are confusing), food is delicious! »
@phoenix_kzn
« We stumbled upon a little street with a great view of the Tokyo Tower - one of Tokyo's iconic symbols :) Nearby, there’s a temple and a beautiful park too! »
@darya_moinich
« Tokyo. Odaiba. Such a beautiful place with plenty of space and a lot of interesting spots to visit - the Museum of the Future, the Monogatari Onsen, the Wax Museum, and the Rainbow Bridge. If you’re in Tokyo, I definitely recommend checking it out :). I'm already missing Japan! »
@vk_nika
« Tokyo was the most extraordinary experience of my life! It's a city where everything is so bewildering that it's no longer scary))) I've never seen streets like this anywhere else. You can spend an entire day wandering around the city without even stepping down to ground level, since there are as many as 4 layers of sidewalks stacked above each other. »
@marina_elem
« During these days, we experienced so much! Took tons of photos! Gained a wealth of impressions! And, we will definitely come back! Thank you, Japan. »
@darianast
« I really wanted to go to Tokyo! It's so clean and beautiful here, with small streets, little houses, neat gardens, and trees. Plus, the people are unbelievably polite and friendly! The ancient architecture impresses with its beauty in every detail! I would definitely come back. ☺️ »
@golovko_alexey
« I already miss it. But I'll definitely be back. Tokyo, Japan. »

« The nightlife in Tokyo is truly breathtaking! 🌃✨ The neon lights, bustling streets, and vibrant atmosphere make every weekend feel like a new adventure. There’s something magical about exploring the city after dark; whether it's indulging in delicious street food, visiting quirky themed cafés, or dancing the night away at a local club. It never feels dull here!

Just roaming around popular districts like Shibuya and Shinjuku at night is an experience in itself. You can find everything from traditional izakayas to high-end restaurants, and the energy is infectious. It's amazing how the city transforms, and the blend of modernity with tradition creates a unique vibe.

Definitely a place that leaves a lasting impression! 😊🎉 »
