Getting Around

Bus
Riga's buses cost €1.15 per ride (purchase tickets from kiosks or the driver) and operate frequently from 6am to midnight, providing extensive coverage to areas like Old Town and the bustling Central Market. For a budget-friendly option, consider a 10-ride ticket for €10, which can be used across buses, trolleys, and trams, making it ideal for sightseeing across the city.
On Foot
Riga's pedestrian zones, including the Old Town and Art Nouveau District, are free to explore and open 24/7, making it easy to wander between landmarks like the House of Blackheads and the Freedom Monument. For a unique experience, try walking along the River Daugava during sunset for stunning views; just watch out for cyclists sharing the paths!

« I have never come across such a wide range of excursion programs in any single town in Europe. At every corner of the old town, for around 2 euros per person, you can enjoy a historical walking tour. And you know, with the crowds moving through the streets, this service is gaining popularity. »

« We had a 5-hour layover in Riga, and we made a quick trip to the Old Town. If anyone is interested, you can take bus 22 or minibus 222, which takes about an hour and costs around €1.50. The Old Town was really lovely, especially the people – very kind, welcoming, and down-to-earth, not at all pretentious. Such a pleasant impression from this short stroll! And I even found two euros in my pocket! 😏🤣 »

« Yes, this is also Riga! If you asked me why I'm sharing this, I would say: Before, I only posted beautiful photos of old Riga or the city center, and everyone loved them! When tourists come here, it seems like they don’t even step outside the old town. But a city isn’t just its historical part or center; it's also the outskirts and its residents. So I believe it’s impossible to truly love a city without experiencing it from different angles! And this is also a part of that reality, so let’s not ignore it :) I think many will find something familiar in this photo! 😊 »

« Honestly, Riga is not a city I would want to return to. On the first day, I wasn't impressed. It felt too gray, there were a lot of disheveled people, many beggars, and some aggressive salespeople (the waiters were fine). »

« Old Town, Riga I love you!!!!! Seriously, I just adore this place, and whenever I leave, I immediately start planning my return:))))) »

« Riga left me with only positive feelings and wonderful memories. I was so happy to visit Europe! 😊 The euro was a bit of a letdown, but still, we managed to check off almost all the items on our list! 💫 »

« By popular demand, I'm sharing more snapshots of Riga. I want to talk a bit about the city too. It's small, with less than a million residents, and super easy to navigate: by the second day, I felt like a local. The central market had a ton of fresh berries, herbs, and fruits; they looked much fresher than what’s usually sold here in the U.S., and were two to three times cheaper. There are plenty of affordable and incredibly delicious pastry shops: for around $4, you can enjoy two scrumptious cakes along with a cup of tea or coffee. The food everywhere is really tasty, whether in casual spots or restaurants, and that’s a big deal for me—I love to eat! 🍰☕ »
